Snippy snippy snip snip
Don't chuck away your empty plastic food packaging at this time of year - get yourself a sharp pair of scissors and recycle them as plant labels. Best recycling tip I ever got! Any white plastic will do, though I find the thickness of margarine pots particularly suitable. Even milk containers can be pressed into service.
Make sure you use a good permanent marker though, or you'll have mystifying blank strips of plastic 3 months from now...

Great idea! Definitely cost saving. I will be doing that too. :)
ReplyDeleteYou'll never throw another pot away again, and every wee plant pot will be individually labelled at no cost whatsoever. What could be better? (apart from all the piles of yogurt, margarine, icecream pots awaiting the chop and lurking on all available work surfaces...) But then you may be more organised than me (or tidier - not difficult).
ReplyDeleteUseful tip! I'm usually the one with lots of empty labels though! Despite using sharpies, pencils and the likes nothing seems to stay. What brand of marker do you use?
ReplyDeleteI currently favour a Bic permanent marker - it doesn't live up to its name in all weathers, but seems to last longer than most. I'm also quite taken with the idea of writing crop details in paint on pebbles, but don't often have a pot of paint and a small cairn (of the the non-canine kind) to hand when I'm doing my direct sowings. I should just make a load with the names of my favourite crops on them on a rainy day, and plop them into place when the glorious day arrives when I finally sprinkle seed into soil. Will it ever happen?!
DeleteGreat idea - I've just run out of labels (again...), but now I don't need to buy more!
ReplyDeleteYou'll never run out again. Happy snipping.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, I will definitely give this a go!
ReplyDeleteSaves keen a fortune and empties your bin. Double win!
