Having just seen the forecast for below zero temperatures and snow in the coming week, I think this week will have to see me doing a planting of microgreens for the salad challenge. I can do these indoors in a container, they won't take up too much space, and I should be able to crop them within two to three weeks. Will check in my seed box and see what leafy/beety crops I have the most seeds for, and use some of those.
Mmmm! Microgreens! I just bought my first packet from Botanical Interests. I'll try them inside now, but once the warm weather hits I'd like to grow them in a little railing planter outside our (side) door. Easy access from the kitchen!
ReplyDeleteIt ended up being rocket seeds this time around. Have run out of bought compost, so am trying out compost from my garden dalek. It will probably be OK as micro greens are cropped so young that they won't need weeks and weeks worth of nutrients from it.
ReplyDeleteRocket - an excellent choice for microgreens :)
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to them as I haven't sampled this version of salad growing before. My first week's crop are germinating well - will see how they get on without the benefit of a growing light to give them a bit more UV! They'll end up following the microgreen route as well if they get too weedy looking.
